Title 1 schools are determined by the percentage of students who come from low income families and receive free or reduced lunches. For the majority of these students, holiday experiences are simply not what others take for granted and shopping for presents is a joyous, empowering, and lasting memory.
Creating a Holiday House is no small feat...it requires dedicated volunteers, financial support, and the belief in magic. Each year we transform ordinary classrooms into enchanting Winter Wonderlands, and invite children to shop for gifts for their family free of charge, weaving an experience that leaves an indelible mark on their hearts and memories. We are proud to report that in 2024, 2000 children across 4 schools (Alta Vista Elementary, Brentwood Elementary, Emma E. Booker Elementary, and Wilkinson Elementary) benefited from Holiday House SRQ.
Additionally, we provide for some important needs. Since 2023, we have distributed over 2,000 pairs of new sneakers at the schools we serve, eliminated lunch debts, and given homeless families at these schools resources to carry them thru the holiday break. In 2024, uniform closets were created at our schools so children have a place to get items they might need (warm jackets, uniform bottoms, socks and underwear), free of charge.
We are committed to creating a positive impact in our community through purposeful endeavors. Ensuring that schools have access to enriching experiences and receive support in areas where resources may be limited gives us great joy!
